James Maclennan - Canon EF 300mm F/2.8L II

About James

I am an experienced professional photographer with a background in photojournalism and sports photography. After attending Loyalist College’s Photojournalism program, I shot for Canadian newspapers in Ontario, Alberta, and BC.

Throughout my career, I have covered all levels of competitive sports, from minor leagues to the CFL, NBA, and NHL. I excel at capturing impactful images both on the field of play and behind the scenes. While I focus primarily on hockey, football, and baseball, I am available to shoot action across all sports at any level of play.

Here's Why My Work Stands Out:

  • Proven skill

I consistently produce images of real sports action - not stylized snapshots of players between plays.

  • Technical mastery

I produce the highest-quality images in any game condition or venue while maintaining exceptional standards. With a deep understanding of my equipment’s strengths and limitations, I ensure every shot is sharp, color-balanced, and composed for a frame-worthy result.

  • Extensive experience

My photojournalism background has solidified my ability to not only produce high-impact sports action images, but capture emotion and tell a story. I always, ensuring every assignment results in compelling, high-quality images — no exceptions.

  • Pro sports gear

My sports-appropriate loadout includes multiple full-frame, flagship mirrorless camera bodies paired only with f/2.8L Canon glass: wide, zoom and super telephoto.

  • Focus

My photography resources are fully dedicated to sports - not weddings and babies.

  • Superior delivery

Quick delivery of fully edited images is standard and happens on my own custom-built, cloud-based image delivery platform. Being able to deliver images from the field of play lets me distribute my images to your team and meet your deadlines.
